DX Series: 11 months, 4 weeks agoThanks for the info. Working on the 58cm bike first. Bottom bracket cups, axle, and bearings all had noticeable wear, so I bought new bearings and took the axle and cups from the smaller bike which were in good condition. Next, onto the wheel hubs, then the headset…

DX Series: 1 year agoPersonally I would do exactly as Darin suggested…do what you can within the confines of saving some money and not damaging anything, then get them back together and take them to a reputable bicycle shop and have the “Pro” mechanic do a once over prior to heading out on your 20 mile ride. It will [...]

DX Series: 1 year agoI would suggest servicing the headset and bottom bracket along with the hubs as well. A good cleaning and repacking with fresh grease is likely in order.

DX Series: 1 year agoI pass a 1986 DX-5000 locked to a sign post on the way to work every day. I just recently had it’s front wheel stolen. It belongs to a food place as a delivery bike but doens’t seem to be used anymore. It stays locked up outside year round and really makes me sad. I want to save it. The only thing that appears non original is the saddle. What do…[Read more]

DX Series: 1 year agoThe Situation – I’m an amateur mountain biker who has been having obsessive thoughts about buying a road bike. Lack of funds prompted searches on Craigslist where I just purchased 2 1987 Panasonic DX-3000′s (49cm and 58cm) at $50 each. They are in decent, but not great shape; previous owners (husband and wife) were avid [...]

DX Series: 1 year, 1 month agoWelcome to the club Marc. I remember those ’85 DX-2000′s as well. My first was an ’85 Team so I used to thumb through the 1985 catalog quite often drooling over the various models. You don’t see too many of the ’85 DX-2000 or DX-3000 models these days.

DX Series: 1 year, 1 month agoI own a 1985 DX-2000, 28″ Frame, Metallic Graphite in color. The bike is all original except bar tape… I purchased this bicycle new in 1985 and did some junior amatuer road racing with it. What a great bike! I will never part with it…not only is it a gorgeous classic, but it holds too [...]

DX Series: 1 year, 6 months agoI’ve now seen 4 for sale in the last 8 months or so and haven’t been able to snag a single one of them. Still hoping for a mint one in or around the Twin Cities so I can just go pick it up without having to convince a Craigslist seller to actually ship a [...]

Depends on how bad off it is and how original. I’d gladly pay $150 for a decent one that isn’t too far gone.
